The Lancashire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has been successful in securing Enterprise Zone (EZ) status for four separate sites across Lancashire; the largest number of EZ sites awarded to a single LEP.

The Lancashire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has been successful in securing Enterprise Zone (EZ) status for four separate sites across Lancashire; the largest number of EZ sites awarded to a single LEP.
These sites are at Samlesbury and Warton which are adjacent to BAE Systems’ operations, Blackpool Airport and Hillhouse in Wyre.
Lancashire is number 1 in the UK for aerospace production with 500 companies in the aerospace supply chain. Together, these companies directly employ 13,000 people representing the UK’s largest concentration of aerospace employment. Lancashire’s advanced engineering and manufacturing sector also supports 85,000 jobs. The Enterprise Zone sites have a strong, complementary industrial focus which build on Lancashire’s national and international strengths in aerospace, advanced engineering and manufacturing, energy and chemicals.
Lancashire, as a national centre of excellence in Advanced Manufacturing, is maximising its clear competitive strengths and capabilities with internationally renowned companies attracting and supporting strong supply chains. Supported by world-class, flagship projects backed by Lancashire County Council and the LEP including UCLan’s £30m state-of-the-art Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC) in the heart of the Preston, the Health Innovation Campus at Lancaster University and the world-renowned Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre based at Samlesbury Aerospace Enterprise Zone.
These investments are in response to the challenge of increasing the productivity and competitiveness of our key and emerging sectors and to further direct economic growth and drive job creation to make Lancashire the location for business growth and inward investment, ensuring the best possible economic conditions so that businesses can start, grow and thrive. By Enhancing Lancashire’s innovation assets and centres of excellence, building on our core strengths, to attract inward investment and retain the best talent opportunities to unlock the area’s potential are being crystallised.
The four EZ sites have a strong and complementary industrial focus, building on Lancashire’s national and international strengths in the aerospace, advanced engineering and manufacturing, energy and chemicals industries; and collectively will help to create over 10,000 highly productive high value jobs and an economic and investor offer of truly Northern Powerhouse significance.

Attracting Inward Investment
Nationally, Enterprise Zones are helping to attract more investment into the country, bringing jobs and businesses, delivering long-term, sustainable growth based on cutting-edge technology and enterprise.
Since 2012 Enterprise Zones have attracted over £2.4 billion pounds of private sector investment, building world class business facilities and transport links and have attracted nearly 24,000 jobs.
